AUDITIONS!
Intramural Theater is looking for six actors for the regional premiere of Timbuktu, USA by Ken Prestininzi, a raucous, sex-fueled comedy all about American political dynasties. Inspired by lyrical authors such as Sylvia Plath and absurdists like Samuel Beckett, the piece tells the story of Kelly Kilkenny, a highly decorated career politician who formulates a devious, nepotistic plot to attain the ultimate seat of power – the American presidency.
Rehearsals will start the week of December 8th, and performances will take place at the New Marigny Theatre in late January/early February, with a longer break for the holidays from December 22nd-January 1st. The production will be directed by Intramural member Frenchie Faith, and stipend for actors will amount to $800 - $1,000, depending on the role.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 28th and Sunday, September 29th from 5:30-9:30PM at Catapult (609 St. Ferdinand St.), with 30-minute audition slots. Callbacks will be held from 6-9PM on Monday, September 30th at Catapult.
OPEN ROLES
All parts but two (General Bane/Gardener & Bubu/The Monkey) are open for casting. They include:
Babette Rosequest: 20-35 years old, any race, any gender. A young, cherubic woman who has been kept protected from the world by her father. Smart, strong, innocent, good, and surprisingly magnetic. Also plays herself at age 5. This role involves fight choreography/simulated violence, intimacy/simulated sex acts.
Kelly Kilkenny: 35-70 years old, any race, any gender. The Secretary of State, also known as the Great Virgin who Refused. Tenacious, unapologetic, power hungry, and beautiful. Hardened by lost presidential campaigns and the weight of the patriarchy. She is the aunt to Bobby Kilkenny, upcoming member of the family’s political dynasty. Also plays her younger self at age 33, before she refused and was refused. This role involves fight choreography/simulated violence, and intimacy/simulated sex acts.
Bobby Kilkenny: 20-35 years old, any race, any gender. A beautiful young military man, nephew to the Secretary, social and political climber. Promiscuous, ambivalent, entitled. This role involves fight choreography/simulated violence, and intimacy/simulated sex acts.
Bert: Any age, any race, any gender. An aide to Kelly Kilkenny. Witty. Loyal.
Ushi: Any age, any race, any gender. An aide to Kelly Kilkenny. Witty. Loyal.
Senator Henry Rosequest: 40-70 years old, any race, any gender. A politician and father to Babette. Stoic, decent, well-read, and emotionally unavailable.
